The holiday season is approaching! You might just so happen to have loads of decorations stored away in your garage, attic, or closet that you plan to fill your house with. Why not take it a step further this year? If you love getting festive, these are some DIY holiday crafts to try, even if you aren’t a master at crafts.

1. Pine Tree Rice Krispie Treats

For these festive and tasty holiday sweets you’ll need the following:

  • 1 bag of mini marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • Green and yellow food coloring
  • 6 cups of rice krispie cereal
  • Red sprinkles
  • 18 Reese’s peanut butter cups (unwrapped)
  • 18 yellow M&M minis

Start by combining the marshmallows and butter in a bowl then microwave until it’s melted, then stir. With green and yellow food coloring, tint the mix to green. Add cereal and stir until well coated and let it cool about 5 minutes. Shape about 1/3 of a cup of the mixture into a small cone (with greased hands). Decorate cone with red sprinkles as ornaments, and repeat. Top each cone with a yellow M&M and place on top of a peanut butter cup.

2. Paper snowflakes

To make these paper snowflakes all you’ll need is white (or colored!) paper and some scissors. First, start with a square of paper, any size. Next fold the paper diagonally from corner to corner. Fold that triangle in half again to create a smaller right triangle. Next, fold this triangle in thirds as shown below (from Instructables)

Next fold the one of the “third” on the right or left side over and repeat on the other side:

Next you’ll want to the the “top” off at an angle:

All you have to do now is cut designs in the snowflake! You can find some snowflake designs on Google or Pinterest.

3. Sock Snowman

Even though we don’t get snow to make snowmen here in southern California, these sock snowmen are pretty easy to make and don’t require any sewing.

For this DIY you’ll need the following:

  • 1 white sock and 1 colored sock (for the hat)
  • Rice
  • rubber bands or thread
  • Colorful buttons
  • Ribbon
  • A glue gun
  • Black (and pink, optional) marker or paint
  • 2 orange pom-poms.

First fill your white sock with rice. Once you are happy with the amount (and size) of your sock snowman tie the top with the rubber band. Take another rubber band and place in the middle (more to the upper side) of the rice filled sock to form the head shape so there’s two parts to the sock snowman.

Now glue the buttons to the bottom side by using a glue gun and draw the mouth and eyes with a black marker or with black paint. The optional pink was for adding pink cheeks. For the nose you can use the pom poms. Add a colored ribbon for the scarf with some dots of hot glue. Cut the colored sock (the foot part, without heel) and roll it up a little bit. You can leave it as it is or you can secure it with some glue.
