Happy Hunger Games!

“Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in  your favor,” is something nobody wants to hear in Panem. The Hungers Games Trilogy is an adventure, dystopian novel with the first book, The Hunger Games, worth 23 reading counts points, the second book, Catching Fire, worth 24 points, and the third book, Mockingjay, worth  23 points.

The story’s main protagonist is young, Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year old from District 12. She lives in the country of Panem, which is divided into 12 districts. In Panem, every year the Capitol randomly selects a boy and a girl from each district to fight in a last man standing, battle to the death, tournament called The Hunger Games.  Katniss decides to enter the games as tribute, to save her sister from participating.

The books have sold over 50 million copies in 26 languages.  96% of readers have liked this book and Goodreads have given it 4.3 stars out of 5.  Why The Hunger Games is so popular is because Collins draws a clear line of good and bad.  She also gives the main characters a backstory that influences their actions.

The film adaptation of  The Hunger Games made over $1 billion in box offices when the movie was released into theatres. The difference between the books and the movies are slim but like every book adaptation movie it leaves out a few story elements.   For instance, in the books we only see the perspective of Katniss, while in the movies we see through the eyes of President Snow and other tributes in training, and their is no voice-over like in the book.

Overall, The Hunger Games is a beautifully written book and people behind the film adaptation did it justice . I highly recommend The Hunger Games, especially if your interested in the dystopian genre.
