Ever since the first Superman film in 1967, the big screen has been home to the caped crusaders and crime fighters of the superpowered universe. In the last decade, we have had more superhero films than ever before; with Marvel’s Iron Man starting the superhero craze in 2008, but no single year as the upcoming one will experience so many movies with the comic book heroes. So what films will be in a theater near you?

The first major superhero film that was released in 2018 was Black Panther. Easily one of the most anticipated films of the year this Marvel movie was “Certified Fresh ”by Rotten Tomatoes with a “97% ” rating. The story indulged in many themes such as, empowerment, struggle, and what it means to belong. The film is beautifully crafted and deserves to be seen while still in theatres.

Another highly anticipated Marvel movie being released this year is Avengers Infinity War. The movie is set to be released on April 27th and has continued to foster high hopes for both critics and fans. The story can be described as the beginning of the end since many characters are believed to be retiring from the Marvel universe after the second Infinity War film. Many new and old Marvel characters are planned to appear and star in the Marvel movie and it is well known that the glimpses of Thanos we have been receiving for years will finally come to fruition.

Yet, another Marvel property that will be released this year is the Ant-man and the Wasp movie which is the sequel to the well-liked Ant-Man film. The film will be released in June, after Infinity War, so the possibility of the Wasp making her debut in the Avengers Infinity War movie is unlikely. Even Evangeline Lilly( who plays The Wasp) says it’s not going to happen. Stating,”There’s an Avengers series coming out. It’s a two-parter. The Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part, because they really want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man And The Wasp.

With the recent purchase of sony Marvel, we are requiring several franchises and Deadpool 2 ( May 18)  and Dark Phoenix (November 2) are some of them. It should also be noted that while the previous movie was highly reviewed we recommend that no one see Deadpool 2 unless they have permission from there parent as it is inappropriate for young audiences.

Disney isn’t the only one releasing superhero films this year, Warner Bros will be releasing their stand-alone film for Aquaman. While Aquaman was one of the few upsides of Justice League, which was a total flop with critics, many reviewers and critics are skeptical of a stand-alone film. Cellspex, a movie reviewer on youtube, unenthusiastically called it,” an Idea.” she later explained that with DC’s track record she isn’t expecting anything great and that all fans of the underwater hero should keep their expectations low.

Warner Bros will also be releasing a Teen Titans Movie this year, which will probably be the worst film on this list. The show the movie will be expanding on is mediocre, childish, at sometimes gross, and not at all of high quality. Disney and other studies have shown us again and again that a “ child’s films” can be just as thought to provoke and entertaining to adults as adult films.  Speaking of which….

This year we will also be getting the long-awaited Incredibles 2. Fans were extremely excited for the sequel since fans of the crime-fighting family have been asking for one ever since the initial movies release almost a decade ago. The movie is set to be released in June and I can say that we are ready for it.

In other news for animated superhero films, we will also be getting Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. Many fans were extremely excited to see that Miles Morales will be finally making his debut on the silver screen. Other fans have questioned who else who holds the spiderman name will appear in the film, Spider-Gwen is a hopeful for many fans. The movie will be released in December but if you can’t wait that long for your spiderman fix you in luck because this year will be getting a darker film involving venom. The movie is set to release October and everyone is excited to see Tom Hardy’s interpretation of the character.

So that’s it, all of the superhero films that will be released this year. From Marvel to DC to Sony expect to see some great things from fictional heroes in 2018.
