With gun control being such a prominent topic in today’s current climate, it feels like a slap in the face that another shooting has occurred in our country. On April 3rd, 2018 a woman by the name of Nasim Aghdams entered the Youtube HQ building in San Bruno CA, she then proceeded to shoot 3 people before committing suicide. No one other than the shooter died, but all 3 victims were hospitalized.

As to why Aghdams decided to shoot up the Youtube HQ, her family believes it was due to the fact that she believed the company was purposely trying to limit her views and censor and demonetize her work. She believed her videos which would cover veganism, animal rights and Persian culture and fitness were being unfairly age restricted due to her race.

“She was always complaining that YouTube ruined her life,” says the shooter’s brother.

A couple of days before the shooting Aghdams family called her in as a missing person, a few days later the police found her near Mountain View, CA. When the police phoned in her whereabouts to her family her brother said,”I Googled Mountain View and it was close to YouTube headquarters. And she had a problem with YouTube” her brother would later call the cop again to warn him that his sister might do something,”….there’s a reason she went all the way from San Diego to there, so she might do something”. Similarly, Aghdam’s father claims he had warned the police that she “hated” the company.

Before the shooting, it was reported that she had gone to a gun range before she shot up the HQ. She apparently appeared to have no real experience with a gun. Her father says ‘”I [was] thinking she never hurt one ant, how [did] she shoot people? Right now I [was] thinking that. How she did that? I don’t know.”’

On the other end, YouTube says the shooter’s videos were removed due to “‘multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s policy against spam, deceptive practices, and misleading content ’’ in other words that they had the right remove the videos. According to her family youtube was her source of income stating youtube had,”stopped everything and now she has no income”.

In the recent days after the shooting, all victims appear to be recovering.  We can only hope that this attack will push forward gun control sooner than later.

#Editors Note: We refuse to show an image of the shooter, so as not glorify her in any way.
