After returning from their short spring break, students from Marjory Stoneman High School were greeted with a new “safety” product that their school district enabledーclear backpacks.

The backpacksーwhich are made out of plasticーwere handed out to every student, and are now required for everyone to wear. The purpose of them is to make sure no one can sneak a gun into school grounds, and, while they might stop student from bringing gum to school, are a joke to many of the advocators of gun control.

For one, the backpacks won’t prevent a non-student/faculty shooter (like the one who shot up parkland) from attacking the school. While there are also security checks, the leave the backpacks virtually useless for defense and safety.

As the backpacks are in fact clear, they grant easy access for all of your peers to see what you’re carrying around. Even if you aren’t carrying an illegal item on you, you might have something personal, or at least an object for your eyes only. You know all of that trash in your backpack you’ve been hoping know one would notice? Or the packet of gum you’ve claimed you don’t have? Sorry, they’re now presented to everyone in HD vision. How nice.

Many of the Parkland students have taken to creative protests by using their backpacks. They place signs in their backpacks that everyone sees, such as one that states “This backpack is probably worth than my life”. Another bag, filled with ducks, exclaims “THIS IS DUCKING STUPID”. These two are only a sample of the protests, as almost all students are participating.

Makyla Harris, and 8th Grader, stated that it’s “relatively pointless. I mean kids can become paranoid from the lack of privacy since you do keep things you don’t want people to see there sometimes, and it’s just overall privacy invasion”. A 7th Grader, Lorelei Dalton, said “It’s bad, people are more likely to steal things from you if they know what you have”.

In the end, it is your opinion on whether clear backpacks are useful or not. Feel free to leave your opinion in the comments.

This is probably one of the most dumbest thing I have seen. Clear backpacks is a TOTAL privacy invasion and that would never help.
