It has become a plague on our nation. A scar on our country’s permanent record. The 41st school shooting occurred this year, on May 18, 2018, in Santa Fe Texas, a student walked into an art class and fired several gunshots. On that day 10 people, 8 students, and 2 educators lost their lives to gun violence.

Teenagers once again feared for their lives as they barricaded themselves in classrooms and art closest. One student says that the shooter said ”I’m going to kill you ’ before aiming his gun at them. When the students were given the opportunity to continue to barricade the door they soon met with the shooter who ended up shooting a student in the chest.

For many that knew the shooter, it was one of the greatest shocks in there lives. Described as a “good boy ” the shooter was never someone that was targeted as a threat. His father claims that his son was bullied, he was”mistreated at school” and that was the cause of the shooting. He offers his condolences to the families of the victims and thanks to the first responders.

The president was quick to respond to the shooting stating on the day of the shooting that these “absolutely horrific attack[s]”, “This has been going on too long in our country. Too many years, too many decades now” offering his condolences to the family members. Several other politicians responded saying that this is only another reason for increased gun control.
