Lithium batteries can start a fire and they are found in many household items around the world; even your phone has them!

Now, you might think to yourself, what are Lithium batteries? Lithium batteries are the thing that causes your phone to charge when plug it in. This battery is super light and it contains lots of power inside of it.

Your phone catches on fire for one reason and that reason is dendrites. Dendrite are like a metal tree that grows from the positive side then expanded to the negative side when they touch a sparse which tears into a fire.

This mostly happens to Samsung Note 7’s, but there is a way to fix this but makes the device have less power. The way to fix it is to make something like a apartment building that houses the positively charged atoms so you would have to make another apartment to store the atoms so dendrites are made.

Mr. Rahmanou, a 6th grade teacher here at Dana Middle School displays his thoughts on phones catching on fire, “I think phones catch on fire because the energy density is too high.” To elaborate, Mr. Rahmanou is saying that the energy that your phone uses might be too comprest which will make positive and negative plates touch witch will make a fire.

According to Nova’s official website, scientists all over the world are trying to make a better battery that they call a super battery. One scientist is making a battery that doesn’t use any liquid that is flammable. There is also another scientist that is making saltwater batteries along with other metals.

    Didint this happen like 2 years ago. And they stopped selling the note 7 right when it came out because of these problems.
