The strongest Arctic Sea ice broke twice this year in 2018, this means all of our ice is melting and will soon flood our waters, rising into some cities and forests. NYU scientists explain that the thickest and strongest sea ice from the Arctic broke for the first time and destroyed the theory on “the strongest sea ice will melt last due to a climate-change driven heatwave in the northern hemisphere” as reported in The Guardian. When all the ice melts in the future, oceans will be flooded and there will be less land for us and the animals to use.

Now that their theory was proved wrong, scientists are now saying that “the last ice area of the Arctic may be further west.” The Arctic sea ice level compared from 1979 to 2018 changed, the sea ice is melting at drastic rates. “ It’s scary and dangerous because of the animals and people it could harm”, Kelly Ochoa an 8th grader at Dana Middle School stated8th grader at Dana Middle school stated. What she’s saying is since the waters are melting, it could flood our oceans. We will be forced to move up above sea level or drown where it’s flooded, and the animals can also drown in the water while the polar bears will have no ice to rest on.

Since the Sea Ice is breaking up, it is opening up waters in northern parts of Greenland that are normally frozen throughout the seasons. “But since there abnormal temperature spikes in February and earlier this month have left it vulnerable to winds, which have pushed the ice further away from the coast than at any time since satellite records began in the 1970s.”, as stated in The Guardian. Since the ice north of Greenland in broken up it is easier to move around. Even though the ice was very thick it shouldn’t have moved but it defied nature’s laws.
