Aaron Donald, star defensive lineman for the Los Angeles Rams, signed a contract extension on August 31st, 2018, that made him the second highest paid defensive player in NFL history. He signed a 6-year, 135 million dollar contract with 86 million dollars guaranteed.

An average player in the NFL gets paid 2.1 million dollars each year. Aaron Donald, after signing a contract extension is getting paid 22.5 million dollars per year. That means that Aaron Donald is getting 20.4 million dollars more than the average NFL player. That is absolutely insane. There is only one person that gets paid more than him on the defensive side of the ball. That is Khalil Mack who signed a six-year, 141 million dollar contract with the Chicago Bears. What’s funny is that on August 31st, 2018, when Aaron Donald signed his six-year contract, 135 million dollar contract with the Rams, he was the highest paid defensive player in NFL history. Then, Khalil Mack signed his contract a day after Aaron Donald signed his contract. When he was asked what it felt to be the highest paid defensive player about 24 hours hours ago, he replied, “I’m just happy, you know, that my situation got done and that I’m here playing football and that’s all that matters.”

PE Teacher, Mr. A felt that the 6 year contract that Aaron Donald signed was not too ambitious, “He is probably the best D Tackle in the league and he will give you his best those 6 years and make your defense better.” Many people around the sports world agree with that.

After Aaron Donald signed his contract, it kind of sparked other big names to sign extensions. As mentioned before, a day after Aaron Donald signed his contract extension, Khalil Mack signed a contract with the Chicago Bears.

Another big named who signed a contract extension 2 days before with the New York Giants is star Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He signed a five-year, 95 million dollar contract with 65 million dollars guaranteed. Even though this was before Aaron Donald signed his contract, this was all in the time of 4 days. So, Aaron Donald definitely deserves this extension because he is the best at his position with technique and even though some people think that signing Aaron to the extension was to long for 6 years, many people also think that he does deserve that money.
