A Man Called Ove is a book written by Fredrik Backman about a grumpy old man who lives in an isolated retirement home. Although it’s not the newest book on the market, it’s a New York Times best seller.

Ove is the perfect example of the grumpy man next door. Everyone in his small community thinks of him as bitter, while he thinks of everyone but himself as a complete idiot. He spends his time reinforcing irrelevant community rules and visiting his wife’s grave. But one November morning, Ove’s well-ordered, solitary world is shaken up when a boisterous family moves in next door.

The couple and their two daughters announce their arrival with the flattening of Ove’s mailbox. What follows is a heartwarming tale about stray cats, unlikely friendships, and a communities reassessment of the one person they thought they had all figured out.

Mischa Kharrazi, an 8th grader at Dana says on A Man Called Ove, “I liked how you found out why Ove was such a grumpy person that there was another side to him.” She would recommend this book to others, “It gives people more understanding that when people act a certain way it might not be what you think.”

In this heartwarming story, you’ll find a reminder that life is sweeter when shared with other people.
