Halloween D.I.Y. Decorations
Halloween is one of the most fun days of the year, where people all over America dress up in fun costumes and walk around their neighborhoods receiving free candy. But with all of the costumes, candy, and decorations it can become really expensive. The average American spends $74.00 on just decorations alone, not to mention the expensive costumes that many people purchase. In 2015, the country spent over 6.9 billion dollars on this holiday. In this article, you will learn some fun and easy decoration ideas and also tutorials that you can make with the stuff you have at home.
Haunted house outside decorations:
You will need:
1 large cardboard box
Black and gray/silver paint
Red food coloring
If there are any windows in the front of your house/apartment, you want to take the dry shampoo and spray it along all of the edges of your window. This will create a smudgy dirty effect and you can spray the lair either thick or thin depending on how big your window is. If the window is larger, I would recommend making it a thick lair and if the window is smaller, I would make it a thinner lair. After this, you can cut out pieces of paper in the shape of hands, bats, and other scary things like that and hold them on the window and spray dry shampoo all over and around it, then peel it off to then see the shape that you had in the paper. After you know how to do this, you can make any designs that you want.
To decorate your front door, we are going to discuss how to make it look like your door is blocked off and haunted. First you will take your cardboard box and cut out thick rectangles about as long as your door or a little longer. Then you will take your gray/silver paint and paint very small circles on the corners. These will be “nails” on the “wood” that is barring your front door. Then you will take your black paint and write in very messy handwriting, “do not enter!” Or “beware” or so, etching along those lines, but the choice is completely your’s. Then you will take your red food coloring and cover the front of your hand with it. Then you will make handprints on the cardboard that looks like blood. Then, very carefully splatter the cardboard with red food coloring. Then you will take your fake cobwebs and hang them from the top corners of the door. After that, you will tape the cardboard pieces with the writing and blood on it and tape it on the door to where it looks like the door is barred shut.
Easy paper bat
You will need:
Black construction paper
Googly eyes (optional)
This is one of the easiest decorations that you can make. First you will take your black construction paper and fold it in half. Then you will draw the side where the paper folds over into the shape of half a bat. You can make it any shape of bat you want, but I recommend making it a bat like the batman symbol because it is the easiest. After you have drawn the shape that you want, you will cut it out and unfold it to see the bat that you have cut out. After you have the bat shape cut out, you will take your school glue and make a thin layer on one side of the paper8-, cut it out, then sprinkle the black glitter on the side with the glue. Then you, (if you want to) glue the googly eyes on the bat. Then you are done.
Pumpkin carving easy ideas and tips:
Vomiting pumpkin (use the pumpkin guts for vomit)
Tips on how to make your pumpkin how you want it to look:
My first tip is to not use a very large knife. I would suggest like a pocket knife. This way you will be able to make smaller details and make more rounded edges. I would also suggest to draw it exactly how you want it before you start carving. Just take a pencil and sketch out your design and get it how you want it before you start carving. After you have your sketch the way you want it, trace it with a black marker so that you can see it very clearly as you carve, this way you will be less likely to make a mistake. And you probably already know that you should hollow out the pumpkin before you start carving, but I thought that I would put it in this article anyway for people who might not already know.
These are just some tips and easy ideas to make your Halloween an extra fun one.
