On March 31st, Los Angeles based rapper, entrepreneur, and community activist, Nipsey Hussle was killed in Los Angeles. Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot on Sunday outside a store he co-owned in South Los Angeles. His death was met with grief and outrage by residents in the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and by people across the music industry.

Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was remembered by city officials on Tuesday as a gifted artist and passionate advocate for the South Los Angeles community in which he was raised.

“He was working closely with the city to help save lives and transform lives, even as he was doing that for himself.” Mayor Eric Garcetti said at the news conference. “He was a tireless advocate for the young people of this city and of this world, to lift them up with the possibility of not being imprisoned by where you come from or past mistakes.”

His debut studio album, Victory Lap, was nominated for best rap album at the Grammys last year and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard chart. He was in a relationship with the actress and model Lauren London and had two children, Kross and Emani. “I am completely lost,” London said on Instagram on Tuesday. “I’ve lost my best friend.”

Eric Holder (Nipsey Suspect)

Earlier Tuesday, the LAPD took the case to the public, tweeting that Holder, 29, was wanted for homicide. Holder allegedly shot the Grammy-nominated rapper and two others on Sunday afternoon outside of Hussle’s retail store in a South Los Angeles strip mall. A source states that Nipsey Hussle and Mr. Holder appeared to be engaged in a personal dispute. According to KNX1070, Holder pleaded not guilty through his lawyer Chris Darden on Thursday and is being held in lieu of $5 million bail. Nipsey died from gunshot wounds to both the head and torso, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed Monday. The 33-year-old was shot outside his clothing store, the Marathon Clothing Company, in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sunday.

Just hours before the shooting, Hussle tweeted, “Having strong enemies is a blessing.” The suspect wanted by California authorities in the shooting death of rapper Nipsey Hussle has been arrested, officials said Tuesday. “Right around 3:20 this afternoon, there was a shooting that occurred at the 3400 block of West Slauson Avenue,” a public information officer with the Los Angeles Police Department stated shortly after the attack. “Three individuals, three victims were shot. They were taken to a local hospital. One of those victims died at the local hospital, the other two are listed in stable condition.”

According to KGET there are no more tickets left for Nipsey Hussle’s memorial at Staples Center. This marks another sad and unnecessary rapper’s death, but not only a rapper but a father and a true hero to his community. Will there be more to come?
