In 1950, Formula One racing had its first inaugural season and has since become a household sport around the world. It consists of gas-powered cars specifically designed for the track racing for no more than 2 hours. Formula One has had a rich history of sport, death, and speed, but now formula racing has gone in a new direction with Formula E, an all-electric competitive race.

Alejandro Agag from Addax Capital had conceived the idea for Formula E in 2011 and got the first inaugural season in 2014. This racing league helped big car companies get more involved in focusing on refining their electric car making skills, with more than 3 major car companies joining this season or planning on joining next season.

The motors in the cars can go 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 174 mph. These cars are being vastly improved every year, with less than 7 seasons of Formula E, the Formula E we see today may not be the same we see in 5 years.

The cars are extremely light, at 1,800 pounds, the cars are projected to have more than 600 horsepower next season, as much as a Lamborghini Huracan, and the number is expected to rise. The cars aren’t designed for straight-line straight-speed, they are designed for the track, the tight corners, hard braking, and quick responses needed from the cars and drivers, as formula cars have very little safety features.

The handling is as expected from any formula car electric or gas, but the skill from the drivers also takes into account, with true potential and talent from drivers like French driver Jean-Eric Vergne.

Formula E has also involved the fans watching, with a feature for your phone able to vote for your favorite racer, and the racers rank in votes can make them receive speed boosts, along with specific spots on the tracks where the racers can also be given more boost by driving on those spots. These features make the races more interactive and exciting, and is innovative, as this has never been done in other major classes of racing.

They also record the driving habits of the racers and implement them into a video game that lets you race with the drivers, which lets you get a somewhat accurate representation of what it’s like to race with professional drivers.

Formula E is one of the most innovative sports at the moment, incorporating the future of technology and in an interview with Sustain Europe, Alejandro Agag stated, “I will say that we want to have a real effect on the transformation towards electrification of the car industry in general. We want more electric cars on the streets. So that’s the main purpose of Formula E.

That response really explains what Formula E is, innovation. This is the beginning of a new era for the world of racing, cars, and technology. History is being made at the moment and electric cars will finally be getting the recognition they deserve.
