Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct

Nintendo once again hosts a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate direct. Mr. Sakurai adds a new character, more mii (Customizable characters) fighter costumes and a whole lot of disappointment

A new fighter called Byleth from the game Fire Emblem: Three Houses was announced on January 16th, 2020, for Smash Bros Ultimate.

In the new update there adding new mii fighters to the game from titles such as Cuphead, Megaman and Assassin’s Creed. Cuphead includes a music track. They also added a new trial for classic mode for when you use Byleth which has you face off against other characters from the Fire Emblem series in the game.

The new character has sparked huge controversy throughout the Smash community with some hating it and few liking the new character. @RiseFallNick, a competitive smash player, on Facebook says “No surprise reveal. No big news… just another Fire Emblem character. All that secrecy and hype for… basically the most disappointing #SmashDirect ever.”

Many people really disliked adding Byleth to the game, there are some people who actually like it. Dabuz, a competitive smash player says, “I think this character’s kit is fun. I love what they did with it.” Former smash player Zero says, “I think she’s pretty good and has potential.”

The fighter pass currently costs $24.99 and gives you access to every dlc fighter including Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry and Byleth. If you don’t feel like getting the fighter pass you can pay for the characters individually for $5.99 each. Each mii fighter costume also costs $0.75.

Throughout this direct there have been multiple ups in downs but in my opinion, this is a good smash direct.
