Aytana Martinez
Aytana Martinez is a seventh grade student here at Dana Middle School. In her free time, Aytana likes to read, write, and travel. Aytana explains admiringly, “I love Oregon. I went to Oregon to see a solar eclipse, and there’s just so much forest. It was, it was like uncivilized, and I’ve never been anywhere that is like that. It was just amazing.” Aytana says her favorite topic to write about is “news in general. Like local news. I also like to write about politics.” When Aytana is not reading or traveling, she likes to play soccer and ride horses. She describes, “I play soccer on the weekends. And I do horseback riding on the weekends as well. I’ve been horseback riding for about a year and a half now.” Aytana explains that her favorite school subject is math because “ I just like how all the pieces fit together. And with an equation, it’s just challenging and I really like challenges. When you solve it, it’s just like a big relief.” Aytana says that when she found out that she is The Dana Mariner’s news editor, “I was super happy. A bit nervous, but also really happy.” Aytana was the editor in-chief for her elementary school newspaper, so when she learned that there was a Journalism class at Dana, she was really excited.
